When was the last time you needed a list of references? You may be thinking during your last job interview; however, many individuals find themselves needing reference materials for a variety of reasons. Business owners and professionals may require reference materials to prepare for presentations or sales meetings, and students or doctoral candidates may require references in order to compose important term papers. With the addition of the internet as a reference material, a wide variety of references are now easily accessible which had never been accessible before. So, what are some of the best ways to find the references that you need for your project? Depending on your specific needs, there are multiple ways to access the various forms of reference materials that are available to you on a regular basis.

You may be able to find references in more places than you think. For example, if you are looking for references for a business project, consider the internet sources you visit every day. Do you find that you read multiple news related blogs? If so, consider checking the bottom of each post that pertains to your specific project or reference need. In many cases, bloggers utilize other news sources and will cite these references at the bottom of the page. You can then decide to check out these kinds of references for yourself. Utilizing office references may also be beneficial to you. If you work in an environment where many individuals create reports or other materials that require references, there may already be reference sources that are available to you. Consider consulting with your colleagues or coworkers to ask about the references they have used in the past to prepare for projects, sales pitches, or meetings.

Students may also be available to take advantage of multiple forms of references. While an internet search can provide multiple sources, you will want to ensure that each one is credible. Consider speaking with your professor about approved websites or any known source for references. Additionally, campus libraries can be an excellent source of internet references, as well. Many universities maintain relationships with internet reference sources that may require a usage fee. In these situations, many students are able to access these types of sources at no cost to them, provided they enter specific user names or passwords. Meeting with library staff can help you to learn more.
